When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer? Writing is something that I always enjoyed, which is one of the reasons I chose to major in business and communication in college; that combination seemed to provide the best training for a writing career. I was fortunate to be able to move into positions in advertising and public relations, which gave me the experience and knowledge necessary to write 101 Successful Public Relations Campaign Tips a few years ago.
Why did you write this book? I teach a seminar that is designed to help small business owners and marketing professionals how and why they need to incorporate public relations strategies into their marketing efforts an how to use them effectively. Doing this made me realize that there is a real need for a simple, easy-to-follow tips book that can provide business owners and individuals responsible for marketing businesses and nonprofit organization with ideas of how they can go about effectively generating publicity for their organizations.
Where do your ideas come from? For this book, my ideas came from my experience working as a public relations professional, including the time I spent working in a full-service agency as well as from handing PR for my own company, from providing PR consulting services to clients and from listening to the questions and concerns that attendees bring to my public relations seminars.
What surprising things did you learn while writing this book? Writing this book gave me perspective on just how broad of a public relations is and helped me really break down the strategies that can be used for effective PR – online and offline – into useable tips that anyone can apply.
Who will enjoy and benefit from reading this book? This book will be beneficial to entrepreneurs, sales professionals and marketing professionals. It’s also a great overview for public relations students.
Explain your philosophy of writing. As a non-fiction business author, trainer and consultant, I believe that my role is to provide useful, understandable and transferable information to professionals who are looking for ideas that they can apply to manage and promote their organizations more effectively.
