When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I have always wanted to be a writer and have worked in jobs that require writing throughout my entire career.
Why did you write this book?
After teaching human resource management courses and seminars and providing HR consulting services for several years, I realized there is a real need for a book that can provide business owners and managers with an overview of the key HR issues they need to be aware of in order to perform effectively in their roles as risk managers and leaders.
Where do your ideas come from?
For this book, my ideas came from my knowledge about employment law and from the questions and concerns that I hear from students who take my human resource management classes and from clients that I work with as an HR consultant.
What surprising things did you learn while writing this book?
Writing this book gave me perspective on just how broad of a field human resource management is, and clarified just how important it is for every manager – not just those who specialize in HR – to be aware of key legislative, strategic and personnel issues associated with human resource management.
Who will enjoy and benefit from reading this book?
This book will be beneficial to business owners, entrepreneurs, managers, supervisors and human resource practitioners. It’s also a great overview of the profession for students of human resource management.
Explain your philosophy of writing.
As a non-fiction business author, I believe that my role is to provide information to professionals who are looking for information and ideas that they can apply to become more effective in their daily work.
